Entry from: Vienna, Austria Entry Title: "Discovering Central Vienna" Entry: "Saturday morning, May 22, began with a Viennese public transportation experience. Both subways and trams (surprisingly easy) took us to the Zentralfriedhof, the Central Cemetery. Nothing to brighten up your Saturday morning like a few thousand dead people. There is a small section of the cemetery where the great composers are. A memorial is in the center for Mozart. His body isn't there; that whole being-buried-in-a-pauper's-grave thing ruined that possibility. Surrounding Mozart's memorial are large gravestones for Beethoven, Strauss, Brahms, and Schubert. Many flowers are still brought to the graves. My mom and grandma waited on a bench while I finished scampering around the cemetery to find Czerny's grave and Salieri's grave, which were both much more plain than the others. I also found Schönberg's grave which has a large cube structure on top of it...a rather appropriate looking design for a composer like him I thought. We made a quick stop at Beethovenplatz on the way back to the center of Vienna. There is a huge Beethoven statue there that I climbed up on to get as high as I could. I looked out for police while I climbed all over the statue...just in case. The rest of the day was spent in the center of the city ...
